Abstract:
Umbeyajts (or Huave) is a severely endangered variety of Huave, an isolate, spoken in the municipality of San Dionisio del Mar (around 5,000 inhabitants) in the Southern Mexican Isthmus of Tehuantepec region. The focus of this talk will be on three types of strategies used to express property concepts: by means of verbal morphology; by means of nominal morphology and by means of adjectives from a closed class which take no morphological markers.
